My first bundle 'n' wash

My scalp has always been itchy at times. My last wash was Sunday July 13 (just shampoo) the day before having the Sisterlocks installed. So today is Saturday July 19, and I decided to do my first bundle 'n' wash. This was to get used to it, to see how long it would take, etc...

It actually wasn't bad at all! And I was good: I SEPARATED my locks at the roots after I was finished. Since my hair is so dense, I think keeping them separated will be very important for me.

So I'm hoping this shampoo will soothe my scalp a bit...not that it's sooooo itchy, but medium-itchy. Anyways, the bundle and wash went great. Here are some pictures. By the way, I'm going to try to go 2 weeks before washing again, just to help with the settling phase. However, I might not make it...we'll see what my head tells me!!

My Sisterlocks

I did it! Well, I actually didn't DO much at all; my consultant did it! 463 locks and 13hr later (10hr one day and 3hr the next day), my Sisterlocked head had arrived! Here are some pictures.

A brief hair timeline

Hi, this is my FIRST blog ever. In fact, I rarely do anything online besides check my email. So here 'goes!!!

In two days I will be welcoming Sisterlocks into my life. I am very excited and will post pics soon. I've also been interested lately in hair texture as I wonder how my Sisterlocks will turn out. So here's a little background on me.

MY RACE/CULTURE/ETHNICITY/HERITAGE:
Multi-everything.

HAIR TEXTURE
I have DENSE hair, and a somewhat medium/loose curl pattern.

1989-1997:
Before 3rd grade I wore afros, afro puffs, and cornrow type braids sometimes.
After 3rd grade I started straightening my hair. Every week we had the "weekly brushing, wash, detangle, blow dry, and straighten" session. The straightening while watching a Sunday night movie, of course! Extension braids once in a while too.

This is me in 4th grade with extension braids. (above)

This picture is sometime around age 15-ish, in high school. (below)
TWA (teeny weeny afro) - Havana, Cuba, 1998 at the International Jazz Festival

1997-2002:
The day after high school graduation in 1997, I cut off ALL my hair. I wore a TWA which I maintained myself using a clippers, usually a #3 size. I wore a TWA for 5-6 years, all 4yr of college and almost 2yr after that when I moved to Costa Rica. Talk about low maintenance.

2002-2008: random stages (TWA, afro puff, relaxed afro puff, long relaxed, extension braids, etc...). I never had a weave and never was too interested in coloring my hair.

At my home in Monteverde, Costa Rica before getting married (Dec 2005). My hair was relaxed but healthy. (it is wet in this picture, that's why it seems so flat)

This is my husband and I in Toledo, Spain in Oct 2006 on our belated honeymoon. (below) My hair was relaxed but not as healthy, because a hair dresser ended up re-relaxing my ENTIRE head of hair, rather than just the roots. Needless to say, most of my hair was pretty dried out and damaged.

SISTERLOCKS DECISION
I clipped/shaved my hair (#3 length on the clippers) for the last time in September 2007 after I realized that my hair was just not in a good state. I relaxed it in November and February thinking that I was going to grow it out again. But I didn't want to use relaxers anymore because I always needed someone else to help me with it.

You can see how it looks right now in an "afro-relaxed-puff" below. I do like this style, but I wanted to grow out my hair and be able to maintain that growth on my own. I like what the Sisterlocks concept offers. Today it's July 12 2008 and I'm getting Sisterlocks on Monday. My hair is about 5 inches, about 1/2 relaxed and 1/2 new growth.

I started thinking about locs/locks in about March 2008. I started looking all around the internet. To make a long story short, I think Sisterlocks is the best match for me out of all the different types of locs I've seen out there. To each his own; whatever floats your boat.

MY TEST LOCKS!!!!

So that's it! My next post will be after I have my Sisterlocks. Enjoy!
